The Ten Commandments Monument at the State House in Montgomery, Alabama It seems to me that the people who are so upset at the removel of the monmument have taken unto themselves a graven image: my feeling that the object does not belong on display at a government building has nothing to do with my feelings on whether thou shalt or shalt not steal. That small "m" monument is not the actual rock writ upon by the hand of God and given to Moses (and even that God allowed to be destroyed). If billions of people over the course of many millennia can continue to hold dear those 10 rules without ever having seen or touched the original document, I think the people of the great state of Alabama can continue to be nice people without that particular piece of 20th century artwork on display in front of a government building.
